Are you addicted to negative thoughts and behaviors?

Are you the type of person that feeds off drama? You love to hear or talk about others people’s problems. Can you get through a day without gossiping about someone else?  Then you might not even realize that your body craves it.

In the book Evolve your Brain, Dr. Joe Dispenza talks about how if we aren’t faced with any kind of external threat or stressors, we will seek one out. If we can’t find one we will create one – physically or mentally. Do you get that, we create scenarios just to feed out addiction of unhappiness.

It can go both ways. You can use this to your advantage. You can reprogram your brain to focus on more positive and productive thoughts. YES, the brain can be re-programmed. You can change your old habits with new ones. Just the same with your thoughts. The brain is both neurologically hardwired to, and chemically dependent on our emotions. So our body depends on our emotions to feed the brain. We can make a decision to change the thoughts and emotions which will start to feed the brain a new chemical. The brain will grow new neurons and the old ones will disappear. Just like that!

So are you going to feed your addiction or change what you think about?

How to Enjoy Summer Activities Without Back Pain

Back pain can be a consequence if you work or play too hard and don’t follow a few simple back precautions. These activities are common causes of back pain.

Gardening and Yard Work

Weeding, mowing, planting, raking, and other lawn and garden tasks can take a toll on the muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints in your back. Muscles in your back can be strained when you lift heavy bags of mulch or gravel, while stiffness and muscle spasms may be a consequence of sitting in the same position for hours when planting flowers and shrubs.

Following a few of these tips can help you avoid back pain:

  • Ask for help when lifting heavy items or use a wheelbarrow or dolly to move items safely from one place to another.
  • Take frequent breaks to prevent your back from stiffening up.
  • Don’t twist your body when you lift or dig.
  • Use a seat to garden or knee pads.

Road Trips

Road trips are a summer tradition for many American families. Unfortunately, spending hours sitting in a can cause back pain and stiffness. If your vehicle’s seat isn’t comfortable, use cushions that provide lumbar (low back) and neck support.  Make time in your schedule for frequent stops to walk around the car. Walking not only helps you avoid back pain, but may also decrease your risk of a blood clot due to inactivity.

Golf, Tennis, and Other Sports or Outdoor Activities

Swinging a golf club, tennis racquet, or baseball bat can strain your back muscles and joints, particularly if your form is off or your posture is bad. According to the American Chiropractic Association, a force equal to 10 times your body weight is exerted on your spine during a golf swing. Playing these sports may also increase your risk of elbow and hip pain.  There are plenty of informational videos on stances, swings, and body mechanics in online videos.

Hiking or biking may also increase your risk of back pain or injuries. Make sure you wear proper shoes and gear.  You can also use a walking stick to improve your balance and reduce pressure on your back.

Spending hours in one position during a long bike ride may lead to back spasms and a reduced range of motion. Make sure your bike is the right size for your body. If you have to stretch to reach the handlebars or the seat is too high, you’re more likely to strain your lower back.

Chiropractic Care Helps You Avoid Summer Back Pain

Regular chiropractic treatments will keep your spine properly aligned and your muscles, ligaments, and tendons loose and flexible. Chiropractic treatments can correct postural imbalances that improve your golf swing and help you avoid back pain. Does your favorite sport involve running or jumping? Your chiropractor can create a treatment plan that helps reduce strain on your joints and muscles.

What conditions does Chiropractic treat?

This is one of the biggest questions that pops up in practice.

Treat – what does that mean? It usually means we are going to go in and attack one thing, whether it is acne or asthma.

Chiropractic is DIFFERENT.  It looks at the whole person and NOT JUST TREAT THE SYMPTOM.  So chiropractic doesn’t treat anything.  We take care of people.  We detect and correct subluxations.  We get the nervous system clear.  We allow the body to adapt and heal.

If you have a health condition going on, you don’t want someone to just go in and treat the symptoms and suppress them.  We want to find the CAUSE.

Are you subluxated?  How do you know?  How’s your atlas?

It is all about the well-being and adaptability.  We see all kinds of conditions in the office from seizures to cancers.  I have seen people heal from these things.  BUT I am not the one doing the healing.

Chiropractic is not about a FIX but a WAY OF LIFE.

If we are taught to think about treating something that tells us that we only take care of ourselves when there is a symptom of some sort.  Migraine headaches.  Can we help someone with that?  We see a ton of people with migraine headaches.  Odds are if the cause is coming from a subluxation and your body is not adapting to stress and we find that subluxation and correct it then your body can adapt at a higher level and then all of a sudden the symptoms of headache go away.  Then you might find other things in the quality of life getting better like you are sleeping better, your blood pressure goes down, you are not as anxious your whole life begins to change.

Universe and Me

Me: Hello Universe, it’s me

Universe: Hello….

Me: I’m falling apart. Can you put me back together?

Universe: I’d rather not.

Me: Why?

Universe: Because you’re not a puzzle.

Me: What about all the pieces of my life that fall to the ground?

Universe: Leave them there for a while and then decide if you need to take any of those pieces back.

Me: You don’t understand! I’m breaking!

Universe: No, you don’t understand. You’re transcending, evolving. What you feel are growing pains. You’re getting rid of the things and people in your life that are holding you back. The pieces are not falling down. The pieces are being put in place. Relax. Take a deep breath and let those things you no longer need fall down. Stop clinging to pieces that are no longer for you. Let them fall. Let them go.

Me: Once I start doing that, what will I have left?

Universe: Only the best pieces of yourself.

Me: I’m afraid to change.

Universe: I keep telling you: YOU’RE NOT CHANGING! YOU’RE BECOMING!

Me: Becoming, Who?

Universe: Becoming who I created you to be! A person of light, love, charity, hope, courage, joy, mercy, grace and compassion. I made you for so much more than those shallow pieces you decided to adorn yourself with and that you cling to with so much greed and fear. Let those things fall off you. I love you! Don’t change! Become! Don’t change! Become! Become who I want you to be, who I created. I’m going to keep telling you this until you remember.

Me: There goes another piece.

Universe: Yes, let it be like this.

Me: So….. I’m not broken?

Universe: No, but you’re breaking the darkness, like the dawn. It’s a new day. Become!! Become who you really are!!
