ARE YOU HOLDING YOUR ADJUSTMENT?
An adjustment removes any interference from the nervous system so that a person can function and heal correctly. This nerve interference is called a SUBLUXATION.
What does it mean to hold your adjustment? Holding is when your body accepts the adjustment and is no longer subluxated. This is a good thing and you want your body to be able to “hold” as long as possible. If your body is holding, it is healing.
WHY DO SOME PEOPLE HOLD THEIR ADJUSTMENTS LONGER?
Stress is what causes a person to become subluxated. There are three main causes of subluxations: Mental (your thoughts and feelings), Chemical (what you eat, drink, and inhale), and Physical (any abuse your body takes). The people who hold longer tend to have fewer of theses stresses in their lives. Unfortunately, stress is inevitable in our lives.
HERE ARE SOME RULES TO FOLLOW TO HELP REDUCE THE STRESS ON YOUR BODY AND BE ABLE TO HOLD YOUR ADJUSTMENT LONGER:
1.) Take it easy for the first couple hours after an adjustment. Don’t do anything too strenuous or overly stressful.
2.) Do your traction exercises. 120 repetitions EVERY DAY
3.) Choose to be HAPPY!!! The main cause of subluxation has been shown to be emotional stress.
4.) Improve your posture. You should always try to sit/stand as erect as possible with your shoulders, back, and head directly above your spine… Quit slouching. Don’t cross your legs except at your ankles. Bend at your knees when lifting.
5.) Sleep on a good mattress. Everyone needs a good mattress to sleep on. No lumps or sags, as one-third of your life is spent in a bed. A firm mattress with a pillow top or memory foam seems to work best for most people. AND don’t sleep on your stomach!!!
6.) Hydrate. Drink plenty of water. Water is essential for tissue hydration and strength.
7.) Eat healthy. Be smart in your everyday food choices. The food you put is what is used by your body to heal and function.
8.) Be patient. Remember it took your body a while to get here. Your body will heal!!
